Bending the Rules with Kim Caskey Dalmer
  • Date: Saturday March 20th, 9:00 a.m.to 4:00 p.m.
  • Cost: $50.00, does not include lunch
  • Location: Earthly Goods
Please join me for a fun-filled, creative day as we explore colour, value, texture, composition, and couching. We will work on a piece suitable for a wall hanging or table topper which could easily be adapted for a table runner or skinny wall quilt. I will add my own twist on this pattern and technique and you will learn how much fun it can be to Bend the Rules!

Kim will take you through a series of her own exercises and those influenced by others of the quilt world. Kim's original techniques will be demonstrated and you too will learn the value of the "quilting rules", but more importantly the freedom and joy that comes when you bend these rules, creating your own unique and exclusive art quilt.

Kim Caskey-Dalmer has been quilting and educating for nearly 20 years. Her passion and enthusiasm for new techniques - especially machine methods - is exemplified in many of her original art quilt pieces. Always eager to "learn from the best", she has benefited from mentors such as Ricky Tims, Libby Lehman, Harriet Hargrave, Paula Nadelstern, Martha Cole, Judy ViIllett, and our own Margie Davidson, just to mention a few. Most recently, Kim has been inspired by the work of Carol Taylor and has received the EDQG Art Quilt Grant to pursue further education from Carol.

More on Carol Seeley

Teaching since 1992, Carol is an awarding winning quilt artist in both contemporary and traditional styles who best enjoys assisting her students create original designs that they believed to be beyond their abilities, by breaking down the process into simple understandable step by step instructions..

Carol's work covers a wide range from the traditional quilting style, to the more contemporary style with her abstract designs and her realistic west coast landscapes. Carol's contemporary pieces depict the places in her life, real and imagined. From the coastal scenes of her home to the imaginings that take her to far away places.

Carol enjoys fibre as a medium because it is soft, flexible, forgiving yet versatile. She uses extensive quilting & embellishment in her work to create depth and texture to entice the viewer into the surface. She enjoys combining textiles with other mediums such as thread painting, beading, felting, cheesecloth, fibre and found objects.

Carol's work has been exhibited in galleries and private homes in North America and Europe. Her work has been juried into national and international quilt and art shows such as Quilt Canada, the Grand National, The World Quilt Competition, Gibson's Landing Fibreart Symposium, the Pacific Northwest Quilt Festival, American Quilter's Society Quilt Show and the International Quilter Association's Quilt Show. For her contemporary style work, she has won awards at the Grand National Fibre Art Show, the Campbell River and District Public Art Gallery's Members Show and the Gibson's Landing Fibre Art Symposium. For her traditional style work, she has placed third in the World Quilt Competition and first in Quilt Canada.
